U.S. Report to Implicate Saudi Arabia Crown Prince in Death of U.S. Journalist
The Biden Administration is set to declassify a bombshell intelligence report over the death of a U.S. journalist that implicates Saudi Arabia’s crown prince. 59-year-old Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi citizen working on assignment for the Washington Post in 2018. On October 2nd, he was reportedly lured to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul where he was brutally murdered by a team of intelligence operatives. His remains were never found. At first, the Saudi government denied it all but later changed course and claimed Khashoggi was killed by accident. Eight men were convicted in a trial with five receiving the death penalty. Their sentences were eventually commuted to 20 years after Khashoggi’s relatives allegedly forgave them. However, a report mostly conducted by the CIA has now concluded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman approved the killing. The public release of the report set for today is expected to mark a shift in the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. President Biden has indicated he’ll communicate directly with the Saudi king, as opposed to his son the crown prince, over the matter.
