NASA Rover Lands on Mars Today After Months-Long Journey

It’s another big day for space lovers as a NASA rover is expected to land on Mars this afternoon. This is said to be one of NASA’s most sophisticated rovers ever, costing over a billion dollars. It’s reportedly the size of an SUV and has been hurtling through space since launching from Cape Canaveral in Florida at the end of July. The rover will touch down on the surface today at around 3:55 p.m. and once it does, it will have traveled a total of 292.5 million miles. It’s mission will be to send data back to Earth and study the possibility of previous life on Mars. Unfortunately, there is no way to physically watch the landing; the technology just doesn’t exist yet. But NASA will be holding a live countdown and landing commentary livestream starting at 2:15 p.m. to confirm the safe landing. Afterwards, NASA will keep you up to date on all their research through the rover’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. NASA will also be offering interactive and virtual experiences of the landing for you to participate in.
