Deadly Winter Weather Rocks the Nation
The tornadoes were part of a larger winter storm system that is causing even more issues nationwide. The brunt of the extreme cold is being felt in Texas. Nearly 4 million homes and businesses were without power early this morning as temperatures fell into the single digits. The entire town of Abilene was also forced to shut off their water supply last night due to the power outages. It’s unclear when services will resume as normal. The cold weather is further responsible for at least seven deaths, including a woman and a girl who died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning and two men who appear to have passed from hypothermia. At least 15 people have also died in car accidents since the storm hit. Louisiana also reported their first death yesterday evening after a 50-year-old slipped on ice. Hundreds of others have been hospitalized after suffering weather-related injuries. Nationally, more than 200 million people are under advisories as snow continues to blanket the country and break numerous records. Temperatures are expected to rise again starting Saturday.
