Trump’s Defense Team to Present Rebuttal Today
House prosecutors wrapped up their arguments against former President Trump yesterday. Now, his defense team will have their turn to explain why they believe he is not responsible for the deadly insurrection at the capitol. Sources say they’ll only use a fraction of their allotted 16 hours to make a few simple points. They’ll use their time attempting to show no connection between Trump and the January 6th insurrection. There will be video examples they say demonstrate democratic leaders using what they call similar language to the former President. According to a source close to Trump, one possible clip is of senate majority Leader Chuck Schumer speaking outside the supreme court last March. Yesterday, three GOP senators, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee met with Trump’s lawyers to allegedly to go over trial procedures. Cruz said the meeting with the Trump defense team was an opportunity for “sharing our thoughts” about their legal strategy. When asked if he’s now comfortable with the strategy, he said quote “I think the end result of this impeachment trial is crystal clear to everybody.” “Donald Trump will be acquitted.” “It takes 67 votes to convict him and every person in the senate chamber understands that there are not the votes to convict, nor should there be.”
