Skier Rescued After Attacked by Bear in Alaskan Wilderness

An Alaskan skier was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after surviving a bear attack in the wilderness. The victim and two others were hiking up a mountain on Saturday with the hopes of skiing back down to the bottom. At some point, they unknowingly stumbled across a den holding a brown bear and cubs. They woke the bear who then attacked the skier. He pretended to play dead and rolled down a hill before the bear left. Fortunately, the other two people were not hurt. They administered first aid while they called for the Coast Guard. The skiers were in a bit of rough terrain, but were easily found by helicopter thanks to their bright clothing and ability to give their exact coordinates. The victim was flown to a nearby treatment center. He was alert at the time of transfer, having suffered injuries to his head and hands. He is reportedly now in stable condition. The other two people with him at the time were able to ski down the rest of the mountain on their own.
