Dems to Unveil New Covid Relief Bill That Gives More Money to Families with Kids
President Biden intends to unveil a new part of his nearly $2 trillion coronavirus relief package. The 22-page bill will be introduced today. It aims to provide families who have children under the age of six with $3,600 per child. Families with older children could receive around $3,000 per child, depending on last year’s earnings. The amounts would be granted for individual parents earning less than $75,000 a year. For couples it would be a combined $150,000 a year. All families would receive the full amount, even if they owe no federal income taxes, and payments would be made monthly. This is a major move for Democrats and could affect the outcome of the 2022 congressional elections seeing as millions of families would be impacted. It’s believed some Democrats also want to make the legislation permanent to help fight poverty in the U.S. While the new bill is expected to hit resistance from republicans, Democrats are able to move forward with Biden’s pandemic relief plan without their approval.
