U.S. Reports Under 100,000 New Daily Covid-19 Cases Since November
For the first time in months, the U.S. recorded fewer than 100,000 new single-day cases of the coronavirus. Just over 96,000 new cases were identified yesterday, which is a significant drop from Saturday in which nearly 114,000 new infections were reported. The last time the U.S. saw under 100,000 cases was on November 2nd. While cases appear to be on a steady decline, some health experts say we’re only in the “eye of the hurricane” and are urging Americans to keep their guard up.
The data from yesterday may be misrepresented as some states don’t report on weekends and others experienced “technical difficulties.” Also concerning is the growing number of new Covid-19 variants being spotted in the U.S. Nearly 700 cases of the UK, South Africa and Brazil strains have been reported in at least 33 states so far, according to the CDC. Experts predict soon the highly contagious variants will take over.
