Three Skiers Killed After Caught in Colorado Avalanche

Three skiers were also killed after they were buried under an avalanche in Colorado. The incident occurred Monday between the towns of Silverton and Ophir. Four people were backcountry skiing when the avalanche hit. A search effort was launched and the skiers were recovered yesterday. They were buried under more than 20 feet of snow and debris. Only one person survived, suffering only minor injuries. The three other bodies were recovered by helicopter and taken to a medical examiner’s office. The deceased were later identified as Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen and Adam Palmer. All of them either worked or were heavily involved in the county where the avalanche occurred. Governor Jared Polis said “my thoughts are with their families, friends, and the Eagle County community during what must be a heart-wrenching and unimaginable moment.” He added that Colorado is experiencing a particularly dangerous avalanche season and encouraged people to keep safe by staying informed.
