Several Trump Lawyers Depart From Team Week Before Senate Impeachment Trial

Former President Trump is shaking up his legal team with just a little over a week to go before his second Senate impeachment trial. At least three lawyers, including South Carolina’s Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier, have decided to leave the legal team. The “mutual” decision to part ways allegedly came after disagreements over how they would argue their defense. It’s believed the former president wanted them to focus on claims of widespread voter fraud, despite not having evidence, and incorrectly suggest he won the election he believes was rigged. The attorneys reportedly did not feel comfortable with touting misinformation and instead wanted to focus on a Constitutional argument. Trump Adviser Jason Miller has denied these allegations, calling it ‘fake news’. Regardless, two new attorneys were named to the team yesterday. This comes just days before they are to submit their pre-trial brief before the proceedings which are set to begin next Tuesday.
