DHS Issues National Advisory About More Potential Domestic Terrorism
The Department of Homeland Security has issued a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin warning of more potential domestic terrorism. DHS said the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol by President Trump supporters may have emboldened some extremists. They warned specifically that there are those who still object to “the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives”. The concern is they may continue to mobilize with intentions to incite or commit more violence. The department believes the “heightened threat” will persist over the coming weeks. It’s been almost a year since DHS last issued a national advisory, however this is the first ever public alert they’ve issued for domestic extremists. While they said more violence is possible, they did not give any information on a specific plot. It was hinted that “elected officials and government facilities” may be the main targets. Security and National Guard members remain vigilant in the Washington, D.C., area.
