Portland Driver Kills One Pedestrian, Injures More in Rampage
A Portland driver has been apprehended after going on a rampage that killed one pedestrian and hurt at least 5 others. The Portland Police Bureau received a call around 1 p.m. yesterday for reports that someone had been hit by a car. As the officers were responding to the initial hit-and-run, they received even more calls about the same car hitting other pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles across several blocks. The unidentified suspect then crashed his car and fled on foot. He was detained by several community members until police arrived. A woman in her 70’s was critically injured and later died at a hospital after she was struck by the suspect’s car at least twice, according to one witness. Of all those hurt, five additional people were hospitalized for non-critical injuries. It’s still unconfirmed how many people and cars were hit but authorities say there are multiple crime scenes currently being investigated. The driver’s motives are still unknown.
