Security Measures Ramp Up Again Ahead of Tomorrow’s Inauguration

Capitol

Security has increased even more ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration tomorrow. Over 25,000 National Guard members have now been deployed to Washington, D.C. Most of the city has also been boarded up, shutdown and fenced off with all roads leading to the White House blocked. The amount of precautions taken this year is almost three times what is normal but due to serious threats of more potential violence, it’s necessary. Already this weekend saw several protests break out at capitols across the country. This includes groups of armed, far-right demonstrators who marched on state buildings in Virginia, taxes, Colorado, Minnesota, Ohio and more. Yesterday, the U.S. Capitol Complex was temporarily locked down during an inaugural rehearsal after a fire broke out about a mile away. Fortunately, it was a false alarm and the rehearsal resumed shortly after. The acting secretary of defense has further assured after thorough vetting of the guardsmen, there appears to be no insider threats for tomorrow’s event. They have, however, removed two guardsmen from duty tomorrow. The reason as to why remains unclear. The inauguration will take place tomorrow starting at noon. People are urged not to travel to D.C. and instead watch the event virtually.
