January on Track to Become Deadliest Month of Coronavirus Pandemic
As chaos and uncertainty ensues over Inauguration Day, the coronavirus continues to devastate the country. In just ten days, the U.S. has reported over 2 million new infections and more than 27,000 deaths. Around 129,000 people are also currently hospitalized for Covid-19 as of yesterday. It’s predicted at this rate, more people could die from the virus this month than any other month during the pandemic. December currently holds the record at almost 77,500. As it stands, over 22.5 million Americans have contracted the virus and nearly 375,000 have died as a result. Robert Redfield, Director of the CDC, also said we can expect another significant nationwide surge following the riot at the Capitol. He said many of those who participated did not wear masks or social distance, then got into “cars, trains and planes” to return to their homes across the country. In attempt to combat this, President-elect Joe Biden hopes to release nearly all available doses of Covid-19 vaccines in an effort to ramp rollout efforts.
