President Trump Promises Smooth Transition of Power Amid Impeachment Threats

In a video message last night it appears President Trump has conceded the election to President-elect Joe Biden. In the video, the president also issued his harshest comments yet against the “heinous” acts committed by rioters at the Capitol building Wednesday. He condemned the violence and further called for unity and calm, saying his intentions were only ever to ensure a fair election process took place. It was a stark contrast to the statement he released on Wednesday in which he told his supporters he loved them. Now he will focus his efforts on ensuring a smooth transition of power. Despite his words, calls are still being made for the president to be removed prior to the inauguration. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and more have called on Vice President Mike Pence to enact the 25th Amendment, or the House may proceed with a quick impeachment. Their efforts are unlikely to be successful. Pence is still reportedly against the idea of invoking the 25th. The House would also still need significant bipartisan support in the Senate to pursue with the impeachment they’re threatening.
