U.S. Security Officials Investigate Possible Terrorist Threat

An investigation is underway after air traffic controllers in New York received audio recording of a possible terrorist threat. After a fatal airstrike was carried out against top military General Quasem Soleimani last year, Iran pledged to take revenge. At the time they retaliated with another airstrike on an Iraqi military base housing U.S. troops but there were fears they might attack again around the one-year anniversary. On Monday, audio was sent to air traffic controllers where someone said they would carry out a 9/11 style attack today in Washington, D.C. in order to avenge Soleimani’s death. It’s suggested Congressional leaders meeting in the capitol today to certify the Electoral College votes may be targeted. Pentagon and other senior national security officials were briefed on the issue yesterday. They do not believe the threat is ‘credible’ but are taking it extremely serious. The Federal Aviation Administration is working in conjunction with authorities and national security partners.
