Wisconsin Prepares for Announcement of Charges in Jacob Blake Shooting

In anticipation for the announcement of charges in the Jacob Blake case, Wisconsin is mobilizing the National Guard. On August 23rd, 29-year-old Jacob Blake was attempting to leave the scene of a domestic dispute when he was shot in the back seven times by Kenosha Officer Rusten Sheskey. Blake survived but was left paralyzed from the waist down. His lawyer claims Blake had tried to break up an argument before he was hurt. The entire incident was caught on camera and again incited protests and violence across the city during an already tumultuous time. With possible charges soon to be announced, Governor Tony Evers has sent 500 guard members to Kenosha. They will assist local law enforcement to help prevent riots, as well as protect infrastructure and other facilities. As of last night, Kenosha has been put under a state of emergency. The city’s mayor has also been unanimously granted temporary emergency powers. It’s unclear how long these measures will be put into place but a charging decision is expected by the end of next week.
