S.C. Senators Want to Make Phone Use While Driving Illegal

South Carolina senators have pre-filed a bill to make phone use while driving illegal. If the bill called ‘The South Carolina Hands Free Act’ passes it will make answering a phone call, checking emails, texting, taking pictures, and watching videos while operating a vehicle illegal in the state. But on the other hand, if a driver can use their phone hands-free with one touch or voice controls that would be legal. During a driver’s first offense they would pay a $100 fine with no points on their license but on a repeat offense they would not only pay a higher fine but also receive points. Similar bills have been passed in other states such as Georgia.
