Myrtle Beach Police Department Receives Grant For Drone Program
The $300,000 grant will be used for funding a drone program and maintaining the hardware and software.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department has received a grant from city council to fund a new program.
The $300,000 grant will be used for funding a drone program and maintaining the hardware and software.
The drones will be equipped with thermal cameras to assist with locating missing people, fires, assist with ocean rescues, and give authorities the scope of active emergencies. They will also be able to deliver a live look at the scene and relay information to a responding officer.
The drones will also assist the fire department. They can find hotspots and pinpoint where smoke is coming from, allowing firefighters to determine how many fire engines are needed.
The drones will also be able to render aid to victims or officers. They will be limited to around a 2.5-mile radius from take off. The funds will back the first two years of the new program.
