Charleston Officer-Involved Shooting Leaves One Dead
An officer with the Charleston Police Department was involved in a deadly shooting that happened early this morning at an apartment complex downtown.
Charleston Police Chief, Luther Reynolds, told reporters at a press conference that officers responded to a call at the Bridgeview Village Apartments at 3:15 am on the report of a domestic violence incident that involved a weapon. When authorities arrived they encountered the individual with a gun and exchanged gunfire. Both the suspect and an unidentified officer were shot. The officer was shot in the chest while wearing a ballistic vest and was transported to the hospital and has since been released. The suspect was pronounced dead after the incident. SLED is still investigating. This is the 49th officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2020 and the second involving a member of the Charleston Police Department.
