Record Number of Patients Hospitalized in U.S. with Covid-19

It was another record breaking day in the U.S. yesterday as the number of patients hospitalized with covid-19 was over 121,000. According to the Covid Tracking Project, yesterday had the most cases ever reported on a given day during the pandemic. With hospitalization rates this high, doctors warn hospitals will soon have to begin rationing care, essentially making life or death decisions about who gets the opportunity for treatment and who doesn’t. Some hospitals are already employing battlefield-level triage techniques to keep pace with the number of patients. December is the country’s deadliest month of the pandemic. With holiday travel and gatherings, health experts anticipate the spread of the virus will increase and send hospitalizations surging even further. According to the CDC, about 2.1 million vaccine doses have been administered in the U.S. and more than 11.4 million doses were distributed worldwide as of yesterday. Plus, another 4.7 millions are expected to be given out by the end of the week.
