President Trump Issues Numerous Pardons, Commutations

President Trump issued a series of pardons and commutations with less than a month until he leaves office. Included on yesterday’s list was former Trump Campaign Aide George Papadopoulos who was indicted by Robert Mueller for connections to possible Russian interference in the 2016 election. Also pardoned were former Republican Representatives Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins who were convicted for unrelated financial crimes, and more. The president further commuted the sentences of four former military contractors who were responsible for the shooting deaths of 14 Iraqi civilians in 2007. In total, the president granted 15 pardons and commuted part or all of the sentences of five individuals. It’s not unusual for a lame duck president to grant there orders, especially those serving sentences for non-violent offenses. But many have remarked that some of the president’s candidates were more controversial than others, including people who were close to his administration at one point or another. There are still rumors swirling that the president is considering pardons for some of his family members, as well.
