Largest Winter Storm in Years Takes Aim at Northeast Region
The Northeast is expected to get hit with one of the biggest snowstorms seen in years. More than 60 million people from Georgia to Maine are under winter storm advisories, watches and warnings as the nor’easter approaches. As much as 2 feet of snow and wind speeds reaching up to 50 mph are expected to hit certain areas. It threatens widespread damage, accidents and power outages. In anticipation, Pennsylvania’s governor signed a disaster emergency proclamation. More southern states such as North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia will likely get hit with freezing rain and ice. To make matters worse, this snowstorm has the potential to effect distribution of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. With the weather service forecasting difficult travel conditions, and holiday shipments ramping up the closer we get to Christmas, there are fears the vaccine might not be able to get where it needs to go. Fortunately, that impact is not expected to be drastic. FedEx and Pfizer said they have contingency plans in place ahead of the storm.
