Electoral College Vote Cements Joe Biden as Next POTUS

Yesterday, the Electoral College vote officially confirmed Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. Biden won 306 votes compared to President Trump’s 232. California was one of the final states to cast their 55 ballots which sent Biden across the 270-vote threshold, cementing his victory. Usually the college vote is more symbolic and goes largely unnoticed, however due to rising tensions this year all eyes were on them. Heightened security was required in states such as Michigan and Georgia and some legislative offices were closed due to threats of violence. Despite concerns, the ballots were all cast without incident. Following the Electoral College’s vote, President-elect Biden gave a speech praising American democracy and the election officials who worked through both a pandemic and under extreme pressure from across the nation. Since Biden was officially declared the winner, President Trump has not offered a statement. Next to look out for will be the Congressional joint session on January 6th.
