Electoral College Casts Official Ballots in 2020 Presidential Election Today

Today the Electoral College is meeting to cast their official votes in the presidential election. Today’s constitutional ritual is one that normally goes unnoticed, but holds large significance this year as President Trump continues relentless legal pursuits to overturn the election results before it’s too late. 538 electors from 50 states and the District of Columbia will cast their ballots across the country. They’re expected to allocate 306 electoral votes to Joe Biden, compared to President Trump’s 232, effectively confirming Biden as the 46th President of the United States. After his confirmation, Biden intends to deliver a speech focusing on topics that include resilience of U.S. democracy. President Trump has promised to keep fighting results until January 6th, which is the date Congress will meet for a joint session to review the electoral ballots. After that, it will fall to Vice President Mike Pence, who is also President of the Senate, to officially declare Biden the victor of the 2020 election.
