Time Magazine Names Joe Biden, Kamala Harris as Person of the Year
Time magazine has named President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as 2020’s Person of the Year. Among the nominees unveiled yesterday was President Trump, frontline health care workers and Dr. Fauci, and the movement for racial justice. All their selections were clear reflections of an extremely turbulent year which was consumed by a global pandemic, a contentious election, and large-scale unrest. Time said in the end, they selected Biden and Harris “for changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, and for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world.” Guardians of the Year was awarded to activists and racial-justice organizers Assa Traoré and Porche Bennett-Bey, as well as frontline health workers fighting the pandemic alongside Dr. Anthony Fauci. Time also selected NBA star LeBron James as Athlete of the Year, Korean pop group BTS as Entertainer of the Year, and Zoom CEO Eric Yuan as Businessperson of the Year.
