FDA Recommends Emergency Use of Covid-19 Vaccine During Deadliest Day of Pandemic
After months of long awaited anticipation, FDA advisors have recommended emergency use authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine. This news comes as the U.S. reports it’s worst week since the pandemic began. For the second day in a row, records have been broken for both new daily infections and deaths. The U.S. saw almost 230,000 new cases and more than 3,100 people killed. The hardest hit states right now include California, Texas, Florida, New York and New Jersey. With cases surpassing 15.7 million people, the U.S. is also quickly approaching a new grim milestone of 300,000 deaths. News of a vaccine couldn’t come at a more crucial time, especially as daily averages in cases and deaths have nearly doubled from what they were a month ago. While it’s still unclear when the official green light will be given, it’s almost certain to go through within a matter of days. Vaccine kits are ready and transportation crews have been on standby across the nation for weeks in preparation for this moment. Immunizations could begin as early as next week.
