HCS Opts Out of Covid-19 Rapid Testing Program
Horry County Schools will not participate in the Covid-19 rapid test program. The announcement was made yesterday by the board’s superintendent. Governor McMaster signed an executive order just before Thanksgiving allocating 220,000 rapid testing kits to public schools statewide. HCS said they were initially on board but decided to exercise their right to opt out after reviewing what’s required to use the tests. The main objections stemmed from logistical issues and the fear that parents would send symptomatic kids to school. Presently, 46 districts are participating. The remaining 27 have either rejected the order or are still undecided.
