House Majority Whip, SC Rep. Clyburn to Head Biden/Harris Inaugural Committee
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have announced 5 Inaugural Committee co-chairs. There are only 6 days before the Electoral College meets to vote and 43 days before January’s inauguration. In anticipation of their win, the Biden/Harris team has named those tasked with planning next month’s activities with pandemic safety precautions being prioritized. Events, such as the inaugural parade, will most likely be scaled back and include more virtual aspects. The committee will be led by House Majority Whip and South Carolina Representative James Clyburn. Clyburn previously endorsed the president-elect before the South Carolina primary and said January 20th will be one of the “most important inaugurations in America’s history.” The group also includes Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Delaware Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester and Louisiana Representative Cedric Richmond, all of whom served as co-chairs for the Biden Campaign. The theme of the 59th inaugural ceremonies is “Our Determined Democracy: Forging a More Perfect Union.”
