UK Administers Recently Approved Covid-19 Vaccine to First Citizen

A 90-year-old woman has become the first person to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in the United Kingdom. The event has been dubbed “V-Day” and comes a week after Britain gave the green light for emergency use. It marked them as the first western country to approve a vaccine which has a 95% efficacy rate. More vaccines will be administered today to around 50 hospitals across the UK. They’re starting out small with around 100 people a day, with hopes to reach 400 a day by next week. In the U.S., we’re still just two days out from the Pfizer vaccine being brought to the FDA for emergency use approval. It’s believed a vaccine could be rolled out by the end of this month and made available to everyone by spring. Today President Trump is expected to sign an executive order to ensure Americans have access to it before the government begins aiding other nations. The U.S. has just hit 15 million infections and surpassed 285,000 deaths. Hospitalizations are also still seeing overwhelming numbers.
