Nancy Pelosi, Mark Meadows Blame Each Other for Stalemate in Stimulus Negotiations

With the fate of a Covid-19 vaccine hanging in the balance, Americans also continue to anxiously await a new stimulus deal. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows appear to be no closer to making a deal than they were months ago when negotiations first started. Meadows said they continue to make offers, but that Pelosi “continues to move the goalposts.” Meanwhile, Pelosi is accusing Meadows of being the one who’s actually impeding the deal. Pelosi also said the issues remain to be about language over things such as testing, jobless benefits and state and local funding. Despite the apparent road blocks, she remains hopeful a deal will be reached this week. But regardless of who’s to blame, it doesn’t bode well for the millions of Americans who are depending on a deal. Since housing protections expired in September, large corporate landlords have filed 10,000 evictions actions across five states. The CDC estimates another 40 million people could also lose their homes without more protections put in place.
