Judiciary Committee Advances SCOTUS Nomination Despite Democrat’s Boycott
The vote to advance Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination for the Supreme Court was approved today. Republicans are attempting to push this nomination through at an unprecedented speed and seeing as they’re the majority, it’s expected to pass. During the official Judiciary Committee vote today, Senate Democrats attempted to delay the nomination by boycotting. With the Affordable Care Act on the line in a few weeks, they filled seats with photos of people who will be negatively impacted if it’s shot down because of Barrett’s appointment. Democrats have faced intense criticism lately for not doing enough to stop the proceedings which some people believe is an attempt to illegitimately stack the courts. With almost 40 million votes already cast, most Americans also say it’s too close to the election to make such a long-lasting and potentially life-altering decision. Unfortunately for them, Republicans were still able to hold the vote.
