Final Day of Questioning in Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings Concludes
Yesterday’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings were much of the same as Amy Coney Barrett continued to undergo intense questioning from the Judiciary Committee. Barrett was able to dodge most questions focused on election issues including settling possible disputes, presidential powers, peaceful transfer, mail-in voting and more. Her evasive answers were not unusual, as nominees have historically declined to prejudge cases or respond to hypotheticals. However, some law professors believe she’s taking that power a step further by carefully crafting answers so as not to contradict President Trump. The third and final day of hearings launched this morning at 9 a.m. You can expect to see outside witnesses selected by both Democrat and Republican Judiciary Committee members offer competing statements either for or against Barrett. Despite pleas from the majority of Americans to hold off until after the election, Republicans have set the official vote for a week from today.
