Suspect Arrested After Fatal Shooting During Dueling Protests in Denver, CO
A suspect has been identified in the fatal Denver shooting during dueling protests over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, shots rang out near a planned police support rally and counter-protest by Civic Center Park. One person was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A 30-year-old private security guard named Matthew Dolloff was taken into custody over the incident. It was initially reported that he was a member of Antifa, however upon further investigation it was revealed he did not have any ties to the organization. He is now being held on charges of first-degree murder. It’s believed a verbal altercation broke out before the shooting, but police have declined to reveal more. They did confirm two guns and a can of mace were recovered from the scene and that they’re currently conducting interviews and reviewing video footage. Denver’s mayor came out condemning this weekend’s violence on Twitter saying, “Political differences should be resolved at the ballot box and not in the streets, and we will keep it that way.”
