Louisiana Once Again Bracing Themselves for Another Major Hurricane
Hurricane Delta is now making its way towards the Gulf Coast after slamming into the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico yesterday. The 25th named storm is barreling ahead through the Gulf of Mexico as a category two with sustained winds of about 100 mph. It’s sights are set on making land fall tomorrow along the coast of Louisiana which is still recovering from the last six hurricanes, including Laura and Sally. Dozens were killed, tens of thousands were displaced after their homes were destroyed, and millions more lost power as a result.
Ahead of Delta’s arrival, which is predicted to be another major event, the governors of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi have all declared states of emergency. In Louisiana alone, mandatory evacuations are already underway in the most threatened areas. Some parts may receive 8 inches of rain. A powerful storm surge of up to 11 feet and dangerous tides are also expected to create flooding issues.
