Attorney General William Barr Under Fire for Making Controversial Statements

Attorney General William Barr is facing backlash after making numerous controversial statements yesterday. To start, he offered searing criticisms of the Department of Justice, comparing hundreds of people working beneath him to “preschoolers”. These comments stemmed from his frustration with certain local and state prosecutors’ handling of protest-related cases. He doesn’t believe they’re being aggressive enough in their rulings, especially the more left-leaning justices. He even suggested they use the rare charge of sedition, which is conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government. Furthermore, Barr equated the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown to slavery, calling it one of the “greatest intrusions on civil liberties”. This occurred during an address at a Constitution Day celebration hosted by Hillsdale College. When asked to elaborate his claims, the attorney general said state governors were over-extending their powers to suppress citizens and businesses from operating normally. He added, “they treat free citizens as babies that can’t take responsibility for themselves and others.”
