Illinois Student Turns Himself in After Shooting College Roommate Over Dispute

One student is now in custody after a late night shooting at Western Illinois University. Around 10:30 on Tuesday, shots rang out in Thompson Hall on the Macomb campus. One person was injured and rushed to a hospital. The unidentified victim did undergo surgery, but the school has declined to comment on his current condition. The school cancelled classes and entered into a lock down yesterday. Another nearby campus was also shut down as police searched for the suspect, 18-year-old Kavion Poplous, who was believed to be armed and dangerous. It’s reported Poplous shot his roommate in their dorm room following a dispute. Yesterday afternoon, authorities confirmed Poplous turned himself in and was taken into custody by the FBI. He faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Classes resumed today, however residence halls will remain locked through the end of the week.
