Fort Hood Military Base Under Investigation Following Numerous Deaths, Disappearances

The U.S. Army launched an investigation into the Fort Hood military base following numerous disappearances and deaths. 20-year-old Specialist Vanessa Guillen was missing for weeks before her mutilated body was found in a shallow grave. Her suspected killer, 20-year-old Army Specialist Aaron Robinson, also fatally shot himself. A sergeant was found hanged from a tree in an apparent suicide days after going missing. The remains of a private, who went missing last year, were discovered in June. A specialist was found deceased in August following a boating accident where a month later, another private also drowned. And those are just to name a few instances from this year. It’s believed a number of those deceased filed claims of being bullied, harassed or sexually assaulted prior to going missing or being found dead. Along with the investigation, a change in leadership has been enacted within the base. Major General Scott Efflandt was removed from his position and a replacement was already announced. However, the Army’s public affairs office claims the changes were made prior to the investigation.
