Mother, Daughter Sue Myrtle Beach, MBPD Over Improper Traffic Stop
A mother and daughter have filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Myrtle Beach and the police department. The two claim they had guns pulled on them during an improper traffic stop in February over an apparent stolen license plate. They were also handcuffed and separated into patrol cars. The women were driving a rental car whose plates had been stolen but they were returned several weeks earlier. However, it was not taken out of the NCIC database which resulted in the confusion. The attorney on the case said, “let this serve as an example for officers in the future on how to deescalate a situation.”
