California Wildfires Claim At Least 5 Lives, Injure Dozens

The hundreds of wildfires raging out of control for a week now in California have turned deadly.
As of this morning, over a million acres of land were burning as the state continues to face record breaking heat waves and lightning storms. Dozens of fires that have struck northern and central California have killed at least five people. This includes a PG&E worker and a pilot on a water-dropping mission who died in a crash. Three civilians also died in Napa Valley and one in Solano County. Two more people were considered missing as of yesterday evening. At least 30 civilians and firefighters have been injured as a result of the fires. Thousands of people have also been forced to evacuate their homes after hundreds of structures were destroyed. While firefighters are making steady progress, the majority of fires are still not contained. In a speech yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom said “if you are in denial about climate change, come to California.”
