SC Representative Filing Bill Demanding Hazard Pay for Teachers, Frontline Workers

A new bill to be filed in Columbia is demanding hazard pay for South Carolina frontline workers, teachers and other school staff. Representative Wendell Gilliard says these workers are invaluable. However, the state is ‘behind the times’ when it comes to caring for them. Gilliard considers this an essential need, adding it will help encourage teachers and frontline workers to stay in the area. The hazard pay would ideally be one-and-a-half to two times a person’s hourly wage in times of state emergencies or public health crises. The bill is currently being reviewed by the state superintendent.
