Congressional Coronavirus Stimulus Talks May Not Conclude by August Recess
And as millions anxiously wait for a vaccine, it appears congressional stimulus talks will be put on hold once more. Republicans and Democrats have gone back and forth for weeks now over the possible new economic stimulus package. At stake is potentially trillions of dollars, but how to divide up the money has left the parties in a stalemate. Republicans are pushing for a deal that would cost around one trillion dollars while democrats want to introduce a two trillion dollar package. The major points of contention remain to be unemployment benefits, school funding, USPS funding, and assistance for foreclosures and evictions. It’s reported there have not been any negotiations for almost a week now and there are no talks scheduled for the near future. As the two week August recess quickly approaches, it’s believed we may not see any proposals until September It’s also been suggested the recess may not end until both sides come to some sort of agreement.
