NY Attorney General Files Lawsuit in Attempt to Dissolve NRA
Yesterday afternoon, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced her intent to dissolve the National Rifle Association. James and her office have filed a lawsuit that alleges the organization participated in “a culture of self-dealing” and negligence that has gone unchecked for years. This includes allegations the leadership mismanaged millions of dollars worth of charitable funds to benefit themselves, family, friends or certain political affiliations. There’s also claims the corruption can be seen throughout the entire organization which is made up of roughly five million members. James’ office further intends to forward a complaint to the IRS and a similar lawsuit was then filed by the Attorney General’s Office in Washington, D.C. The NRA immediately responded by filing a counter suit. This one says the attorney general is violating the group’s right to free speech. NRA President Carolyn Meadows calls the lawsuit “a baseless, premeditated attack” adding “our members won’t be intimidated or bullied in their defense of political and constitutional freedom.”
