President Trump Threatens Action if Congress Does Not Come to Stimulus Package Agreement
President Trump has threatened to take action if Congress can’t come to a stimulus package agreement by tomorrow. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows confirmed the news yesterday, adding the president would start with two prominent areas in particular. This includes eviction protection and enhanced unemployment payments, however it’s unclear at this point exactly what provisions the president intends to grant both crucial items. It’s also unclear exactly what authority the president possesses in order to carry out the executive orders. The Federal Eviction Moratorium that protected more than 12 million renters living in federally subsidized apartments expired on July 25th. If its not extended, evictions may proceed in 30 days. However, Democrats want more than just an extension on the order. They want to provide financial assistance to those renters in need. Federal unemployment rates also continue to be debated. Republicans want to decrease the payments from $600 a week to $400, while Democrats want them to remain the same.
