Almost 16,000 Restaurants Have Permanently Closed According to YELP
A new economic report from yelp says 60 percent of restaurants that temporarily shut-down during the pandemic have now permanently closed. Many small businesses have tried to adapt with online ordering and curbside pickup. But, the report says it was not enough to pay the bills. Yelp says, as of July 10th there were 26,160 total restaurant closures, an increase of 2,179 since June 15th. Of all the closed restaurants in July, 15,770 have permanently shut their doors. In addition to the grim reality for restaurants, the business review-site also shows that clubs and bars are closing their doors at high rates as well. The bar and night-life industry, which is six times smaller than the restaurant industry has had nearly 5500 total business closures, 2,429 of which are permanent.
