Walmart, Kroger, More Issue Face Mask Mandates Inside Stores
Walmart announced yesterday that customers will be required to wear face masks while inside their stores. This news comes as 42 U.S. states now report COVID-19 cases are on the rise. About 65% of Walmart’s more than 5,000 stores nationwide, which includes their Sam’s Club locations, are in areas where there is already a government mandate. Until now, retail companies have been reluctant to implement such restrictions due to concerns over shoppers who strongly refuse to wear them, as well as how the measure would be enforced. Walmart’s decision was met with similar reactions by other national chains, including Kroger and Kohl’s. Last week, Starbucks announced they would require face coverings, as well. It’s believed even more companies will follow suit, especially since the National Retail Federation has called for other retailers to do the same. It’s predicted as more companies jump on board, they may also begin to sway some of the public’s opinions on face coverings.
