Robert Mueller Defends Integrity of Roger Stone Trial
A few days ago, President Trump commuted the prison sentence of his ally Roger Stone. The 67-year-old was convicted of witness tampering, obstructing an official proceeding, and five counts of making false statements as part of the Robert Mueller 2016 Russian investigation. He was indicted by a grand jury on January 25th and expected to begin his 40-month prison sentence sometime this week. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed the decision to commute the sentence stemmed from “his unfair prosecution, arrest, and trial.” The White House also claimed Stone was the victim of a “Russian hoax” and would only be put at “serious medical risk” from the coronavirus if he were to be imprisoned. In response, former Special Counsel Robert Mueller wrote an op-ed defending Stone’s prosecution. He added Stone is still a convicted felon and “rightly so” despite his commutation. He maintains the investigation was carried out with the “highest integrity.”
