Florida Reports Worst Single-Day High of COVID-19 Cases Nationwide
Nearly 1 in 100 Americans have coronavirus now as the CDC reports disturbing surges in COVID-19 cases globally. Florida shattered the previous record for the state with the highest single-day increase in cases with the announcement of over 15,300 new cases over the weekend. At their worst, New York reported just over 11,500 cases. The U.S. now has more than 3.3 million COVID-19 cases in total with a death toll of at least 135,205 Americans. And it’s believed by health experts these numbers may be ten times higher. It’s estimated by the CDC that nearly 40% of Americans are asymptomatic and their cases have gone largely unreported. At least 36 states have implemented some sort of mask requirement with more than half of all states now pausing or rolling back their reopening plans as the surge spirals out of control. Despite all this, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams believes we could turn the situation around in just “two to three weeks” if “a critical mass” of citizens practice known and effective spread prevention guidelines.
