New Body Camera Footage Transcript Released in Connection to George Floyd’s Death
New details have emerged in connection to the death of George Floyd, which sparked the outrage and protests across the country. Transcripts released yesterday were recorded on former Minneapolis Police Officer Thomas Lane’s body camera. It reveals while Floyd was on the ground, a knee on his neck, he said the words “I can’t breath” more than 20 times. Even more disturbing, when Floyd said, “You’re going to kill me, man,” former Officer Derek Chauvin responded with, “Then stop talking, stop yelling. It takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk.” The transcripts were only made public as part of Lane’s attempt to have his case dismissed. It’s believed Lane suggested multiple times that Floyd be laid on his side instead, however Lane was a rookie officer being trained by Chauvin and “had no basis to believe Chauvin was wrong in making that decision.” Lane’s attorney, Earl Grey, said there isn’t probable cause and it isn’t “fair or reasonable” for Lane to stand trial and demands he be exonerated.
