Over Half of All U.S. States Now Seeing Spike in COVID-19 Cases

26 states are now reporting upward trends in COVID-19 cases, particularly among younger populations. California reported another record-breaking single-day increase in cases by over 5,000 people earlier this week. This is the fourth time within seven days they have broken that record. Texas also reported around 5,000 cases in one day and Governor Greg Abbott said they are seeing their hospitalizations growing at an “unacceptable” rate. Arizona similarly reported almost 3,600 cases with Florida trailing closely behind them at almost 3,300 new cases. The number of states seeing these disturbing increases in cases are also expected to grow, health experts predict. As a result of all of this, the European Union is seriously considering barring residents and other visitors from traveling to the U.S., among a number of other countries who are seeing concerning spikes. The recommendation will not be enforced, however it will be strongly encouraged.
