‘Breonna’s Law’ Passed, Bans No-Knock Warrants in Louisville, KY

As the George Floyd protests continue, lawmakers are starting take police reform seriously. Yesterday, ‘Breonna’s Law’ was unanimously passed in Louisville, Kentucky which bans no-knock warrants. 26-year-old Breonna Taylor was shot 8 times and killed in her own home after three officers forced their way inside on a no-knock narcotics warrant in the middle of the night. Taylor’s boyfriend exchanged gunfire with the officers, assuming their apartment was being broken into. He was then arrested and charged with first-degree assault on an officer. The new law also requires officers turn on their body cameras at least five minutes prior to all future searches, and remain on for at least five minutes after. While many are praising the new reform, others are still upset over the fact the officers who killed Taylor have still not been arrested. Instead, four of the officers involved have been placed on administrative reassignment.
